School Holidays October 2025: Full List of Festivals and Closures

October in India is basically a holiday jackpot for students. If you’re a kid (or, honestly, a teacher), you’re living the dream. The month’s just packed with all sorts of festivals—some huge, some more under-the-radar, but all of them a pretty good excuse to ditch the schoolbooks for a bit. Here is full list of School Holidays October 2025.

Let’s get into the Holiday Dates:

Mahanavami – 1 October 2025

Mahanavami, the big finale of Navratri. If you’re anywhere in West Bengal, Gujarat, Karnataka—forget school. It’s all about Durga Puja pandals, killer food, and your parents dragging you to temples. Also, there’s this thing called Ayudha Puja, where people literally worship their tools and books. So yeah, no homework that day. Stay Blessed.

Gandhi Jayanti & Dussehra – 2 October 2025

Double whammy this year. Gandhi’s birthday (big deal, national holiday—expect a lot of speeches and some forced “Swachh Bharat” action). And, plot twist, it’s also Dussehra—think giant Ravana effigies getting blown up, fireworks, and Ram Leela dramas everywhere. Schools shut across the country. Nobody’s complaining.

Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti – 7 October 2025

North India gets the day off to celebrate the OG poet, Valmiki, the dude behind the Ramayana. There’ll be processions, everyone’s uncle will suddenly remember shlokas, and schools in places like Delhi, Punjab, Haryana will be blissfully empty.

Dhanteras – 18 October 2025

The opening act for Diwali. Everyone’s out buying shiny things and utensils, pretending it’s all about tradition and not low-key retail therapy. Schools call it off so families can shop and stress over Diwali prep.

Diwali – 20 October 2025

The main event. Diwali’s about lights, sweets, firecrackers, and family drama. Schools? Yeah, they shut down for a few days minimum. No teacher wants to compete with fireworks anyway.

Govardhan Puja – 22 October 2025

Day after Diwali, people worship food (literally—Annakut is just a mountain of food). More prayers, more eating, and another day to chill at home. Schools? Still closed.

Bhai Dooj – 23 October 2025

Sibling appreciation day. Sisters feed brothers, brothers hand over gifts (or IOUs). It’s sweet, and yep, one more holiday for the books.

Hal Shashthi – 27 October 2025

This one’s more local—mainly in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Moms fast and pray for their kids’ health. If you’re in these states, congrats, you’re not going to school.

Chhath Puja – 28 October 2025

Massive in Bihar, Jharkhand, eastern UP. Intense rituals, sunrise and sunset prayers by the river, serious fasting. Schools close so families can dive into the four-day festival marathon.

Conclusion:

So yeah, in October 2025 pack your bags, because school’s basically a part-time gig this month. Festivals everywhere, family gatherings, lots of food… and if you’re a student, life’s pretty sweet.
