So, if you’ve ever dreamed of becoming a Sub-Inspector in Bihar Police, here’s your chance. This year, the Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) has announced 1,799 openings for SIs across the state. And here’s a cool thing, 614 of these posts are reserved for women. The online application starts on 26 September 2025 and goes on till 26 October 2025, giving you a whole month to prepare and submit your form. If you want full details, you can check their official website at bpssc.bihar.gov.in.
Who Can Apply?
First things first, you need to be a graduate from a recognised university by 1 August 2025. Equivalent degrees work too. Age-wise, it depends on your category. For general male candidates, the age limit is 20 to 37 years. For women, it goes up to 40 years, and reserved categories like OBC, EBC, SC, or ST get relaxation, up to 42 years for SC/ST candidates. The same applies to third-gender candidates. And yes, the age will be counted based on your matriculation certificate.
What About Physical Requirements?
Becoming an SI isn’t just about clearing exams, you need to be fit. Height is a big factor: general or OBC males need to be at least 165 cm tall, SC/ST/EBC males 160 cm, and all female candidates 155 cm. Weight matters too, especially for women, they need to weigh at least 48 kg. There will also be chest measurements, so physical standards are strict. Don’t worry, though, if you meet these, you’re good to go!
How to Apply
Applying is pretty straightforward, but you need to be careful. One wrong detail, and your application could get canceled. The fee is just ₹100, no matter your category or gender, and each mobile number can be used for only one application.

Here’s what you need to do:
- Go to the website and find the No. 05/2025 under the Bihar Police section.
- Register using your mobile number and email (make one if you don’t have it).
- Fill in your personal details carefully—name, date of birth, parent’s name, education, everything.
- Upload a recent color photo and signature.
- Pay the ₹100 fee online.
- Check all the information, make corrections if needed, and submit. Don’t forget to print a copy for yourself.
How Selection Happens
Becoming an SI is a three-step process. First, you’ll appear for the Prelims exam, which is mostly objective questions on General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Maths, and Reasoning. If you clear that, you move on to the Mains exam, which can be descriptive or objective.
Next comes the physical test. For guys, you need to run 1.6 km in 6 minutes, and for girls, 1 km in 5 minutes. Plus, there’s high jump and long jump. Pass that, clear the medical checkup, and your name goes on the merit list. Once everything is finalized, you’ll join training and even get a stipend during training.
What’s the Salary Like?
Once you join, your basic pay starts at ₹35,400 per month under Level-6 of BPSSC’s pay matrix. After five years, it can increase to around ₹41,000–43,000, and the total pay scale ranges from ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400.
Your in-hand salary will be around ₹49,000–54,000 per month, and that includes extra allowances like:
- Dearness Allowance (DA)
- House Rent Allowance (HRA)
- Travel Allowance (TA)
- Medical benefits

Over the years, with promotions up to DSP, plus pension and gratuity after retirement, your income grows significantly.
